Gun Trivia
In case anyone cares about various gun trivia related to the weaponry found in COD4...
Assault Rifles
G3 - The G3 can actually be fired semi-auto or fully automatic. Also, there is a model that has burst-fire. Wouldn't it be a lot better in COD4 if it fired in burst?
M16A4, M4 - Both of these weapons are prone to firing jams, and in today's modern world of composite-plastic and high-impact resin assault rifles, are slightly bulky and overweight, being made of mostly metal.
G36C - The 'C' variant of the G36 is the only one that does not have a reflex or optical sight built in to the design. The G36 is rapidly being adopted by US Law Enforcement.
AK-47 -The inaccurate fire of the AK is by design; the Russian doctrine of the time called for massed infantry fire where individual accuracy was second to the desire for a reliable weapon. So the looser tolerances that allow the AK to be one of, if not the, most reliable rifles in the world lead to the inaccurate fire.
M14 - The M14 is still in use, though sparingly, by the US Military today in a marksman role, and is the basis for the M21. (weird how they included the same gun twice, isn't it?)
MP44 -This weapon was widely replaced (including the Germans, who developed it) by the AK-47 shortly after it was released, due to superior reliability. Why they included this relic in COD4 is a mystery to me.

Very true. In fact, the M16A1 was so prone to jams that Colt added a forward assist to the A2. I have the civilian version (AR15A2). The forward assist is designed to be hit with the palm of your hand. There's several groves cut in the side of the bolt. The assist action catches the groves and forces the bolt forward.

When I was doing a lot of shooting a few of my friends purchased the AKS, which I believe was the Chinese version of the Russian AK47. I shot it several times and I remember it looking, sounding and shooting like crap. Clearly the tolerances were much looser then the Colt.

I used to have a Mini-14, which was based on the M14. I remember punching a hole through a quarter from about 30 or 40 yards with iron sights...very accurate.
My black gun collection:- AR15A2 (223/5.56)
- HK91 (308/7.62)
- HK93 (223/5.56)

Re: Gun Trivia
If I ever have the money to make the trouble worth it, I want to get my Class III license so I can buy some full autos. Though I hear that has become vastly more difficult ever since 9/11.
Either way, I've been in love with the P90 and G36 for a long time; I played airsoft as a kid and amassed quite the little arsenal of airsoft replica weapons: G3A3, M4, G36C, P90, MP5SD, MP5K, Styer AUG. So naturally I'm inclined to chase down their real counterparts. One day I might be able to afford it....
EDIT:
Isn't the HK93 the civvie version of the HK33? Which, now that I think about it, would make a great replacement for the G3 in COD4. Why they included a huge, bulky, single-shot weapon in that game is beyond me. The HK33 would have been a much better inclusion.

As was stated on the HK91 page, the rifle that started it all for HK was known as the G3. On the heels of that great accomplishment came the HK33, the same rifle but in the smaller new NATO caliber. It was a most natural progression.Identical to the HK91 externally, with only the select fire internals missing, the flipper magazine release deleted, the front pushpin area replaced with the "shelf," the grenade launching ring omitted from the barrel, and one pushpin behind the trigger group instead of two, the HK93 is the "little brother" to the HK91. Imported into the United States in greatly reduced numbers from the 91, the 93 is now commanding premium prices in the United States. The HK93 is truly a pleasure to shoot, with the roller locking system responsible for a smoothness uncommon in most modern semiautomatic rifles.
An HK price list from 1985 shows the retail price of the HK93A2 at a staggering $599.00. The 93A3 could be had for a mere $65.00 more. The complete package consisted of the rifle, three 25 round magazines, a sight adjustment tool, a light bipod, muzzle cap, cleaning kit and HK patch for a whopping $752.00. How things have changed.

Mine is exactly like the one on top (fixed stock). My HK91 looks identical...just bigger. Neither one of them came with a bipod, but the groves at the bottom of the hand guard are for the legs to fold up into. I'll post a few pictures later today.

Yep...they used to be, but unfortunately California banned assault rifles about 15 years ago. They've been in storage ever since.
Before then my buddies and I would save our milk jugs, fill them with water and take them to a shooting area we referred to as "Vietnam". It was basically just a dirt road that ran through the middle of an overgrown canyon. On the weekends there'd be people stuffed into every turnout on both side for two or three miles. The problem was you'd get people shooting parallel to the road, which made checking your targets extremely dangerous...hence the nickname. None of us were ever hit, but I can remember hearing rounds fly by on several occasions.
Anyway, it's amazing what a 223/5.56 will do to a milk jug full of water. The plastic is almost unrecognizable and the water is blown for several yards in every direction...it's awesome! As for my HK91, it fires the exact same round the M60 (Saw) does 308/7.62. That thing is way too much fun to shoot!
