Red face Sniping

This is defiantly not my strong point. I just started today and it's completely different from what I'm accustom to doing. I've always been the guy that runs around like a crazy person looking for snipers/campers. Now the shoe is on the other foot and I'm getting owned.

I'm trying to get better at it, and as Mutiny can tell you, I'm improving. Very slowly, and very slightly, but improving a little bit. Here are a couple of tips I've learned:

First, keep moving. Find a spot, shoot one or two guys from it, and then MOVE. Unless you're playing team hardcore, those guys you killed have killcams to watch, and they'll hunt you down faster than you'd believe.

Secondly, look for bodies on the ground. These equal normal weapons, which come in handy. Pick up that M16 or MP5 to carry around so you can clear out spots to snipe from, or get that guy that's trying to sneak up on you.

Third, lead your target. The bullet lag means that for sprinting targets you need to aim about a full body width ahead of your victim. Regular running targets about a half of a body width. Walking/stationary targets, of course, just put the crosshairs on their head.

Yeah, I've seen you make some pretty beastly shots the last few days. The main thing for me is to remember to lead the target. The bullet has travel time in this game unlike many others before it.

Ok, I've been sniping for several days now and although I may be getting better...I'm still getting pretty beat up.

Here's the issues as I see them:
First of all, there's nothing more satisfying then picking someone off on the run. I've been using Danial's tips posted above...good stuff!

There's only a few good sniping maps in my opinion, but since there's no way to filter out the ones I don't want to play...I'm constantly dealing with guys running around cutting me to pieces with their SMG's. I try to level the playing field by trading my pistol for the first available assault rifle I find lying around, but you're still a sitting duck once you start scoping out an area.

My head shots account for about 1 out of every 4 kills. Not too bad, but that number would be even higher if people didn't keep running into my claymores.

That said, when I was leveling up my other weapons nobody tormented the snipers more then I did. It's also safe to say that few people have fallen victim to more claymore then I have.

I really haven't played a map yet that has many places that are good to use a sniper rifle.

Ive only been involved with about 10 matches total, and sniper's are probably who I end killing the most of.

There's only a few that I've had much success with. Overgrown & Crossfire are my two favorites. In fact, last night I managed to go 11-1 on Crossfire and 13-2 on Overgrown.
