I HATE hardcore!

I am starting to wonder if I get the slower up/dl speed option in my internet provider if I will get a better latency.

The main reason I hate hardcore is I can be creeping along not seeing anyone, then out of nowhere I get killed and I don't see the person who killed me until I am falling as they come around a corner shooting. It kinda sucks when someone can shoot and kill you before you can even see them.

Maybe it wouldn't be as bad if I played with a different host, because in all my testing both Texas and Florida give me the worse pings. About 1/4 second or more. This may not seem like much, but when you are able to get killed with one shot, then it is a lot.

Thing number two I hate about hardcore is team mates who use Martyrdom and then get close to their teammates ensuring that if someone kills them then they get at least a double kill.

Until tonight I had only played Hard Core a couple of times, and that was just to see if it was a better place to level up my guns. Anyway, it's defiantly a different ball game. I didn't do very well at first either, but once I slowed down and started taking my time...my game got a little better. Unfortunately just as I was starting to settle in, our group dispersed and I wasn't able to hook up with any of them.

Ive been playing mostly Hardcore. I love it. Treetops rooms are usually hardcore.

Yea, I seem to be in the minority here. I think I would like it better if it wasn't for latency issues. Just get tired of dying before the person shooting me comes around the corner on my screen.

I can tell you that 250ms is a very long time in online gaming. I remember when I used to play Quake on a 28.8k modem. I wouldn't even join a room I pinged over 200 ms to. I can tell you Greyfox, your problem related to your network interfacing with mine. I use brighthouse/roadrunner. I ping less than 75ms to people all over the west coast on my network. If Roadrunner is available, I recommend it. I've had great service and hosting capabilities for years. My service isn't spectacularly fast. Typically I get between 10mb and 8.5mb/s download/.5mb/s upload speeds. Here's a ping test to Microsoft.com (Seattle, Wa):

I'm only 3000 miles or so farther away than you. Less than 10 ms over 3000 miles is pretty damn good.

Yea, unfortunately Charter is all that is available to me. What is weird is that some places that are close to the same distance as you are giving me much lower pings. Around 85ms or less. Like I said, Texas and Florida give the the worse pings. I can even get some better pings than there overseas!

The root of this problem is that not all of the US is running on a true fibre backbone, some of the old telecoms are still using copper backbones. Until the hole US is up and running of fibre this will be an issue.
