Default 360 Towel Trick

Just thought I'd post this here in case anyone gets the red rings sometime soon.

Step One - Remove the disc, if there is any, from the drive.
Step Two - Remove the HDD from the console.
Step Three - Unplug all cables from the console EXCEPT the power cable.
Step Four - Completely wrap your 360 in a couple towels.
Step Five - Power on your 360, and leave it running (in the towels) for about a half hour or so. It should get very hot and automatically shut itself off.
Step Six - Unwrap the 360, let it sit somewhere to cool for about a half hour.
Step Seven - Plug the cables back in, reinsert HDD, and play!

I had the red rings hit me right before Halo3 came out, and I read about this on CheapAssGamer, so I though I'd try it. Works just fine. I have to repeat the process about once a month with my 360, but other than that I have no problems. Saves me having to lose the console for a month and a half while Microsoft sends me another, probably broken, console.

Apparently this trick doesn't always work. Molarrrman tried it after experiencing three red lights, but it didn't help. It's certainly worth a try though.

I know this is an older thread,
But I tried the towel trick and it didn't work.
Actually when M$ had my box they asked if I had tried that.
I said no, why?
The fan mounts were slightly melted.
I told them that I have no Idea about any "towel trick" and we left it at that.
Needless to say I found that when I sent it to M$ it returned quickly.
The only part of the process that took forever was my lazyness not calling about it sooner.

Thumbs down Re: 360 Towel Trick

I got the 'red ring of death' this morning.

This time they told me that they would be sending me a larger box than before. They want me to include the power supply and the power cord.

According to the rep, it should take about 7 days to get the coffin, and about another 2 weeks to get a working console back.

Well at least you'll have a fresh system for Rainbow Six Vegas 2!
