Regarding Makeups?

Several of us had problems that forced us from attending last Tuesday's race. As a result we've fallen behind considerably in over-all points. Shortly afterwards Silverfox posted this:

At the time I was dealing with my own issues and didn't think I'd be able to finish the series anyway, so it didn't really affect me. In fact, I wrote Silver to tell him that I was sorry...but I would not be finishing the series.

Ok, so by the grace of God things are now looking better at home. Therefore unless I'm faced with another tragic turn-of-events...I will be participating in all future races.

Here's my question:
This is our 3rd series and up until now nobody has made-up a race, yet I think we can all agree that the scoring was always done fairly. Here's why. Prior to this series we postponed all races in-where one of us had something scheduled, however, if someone simply didn't show up...they were given last place points. We also made adjustments to the points when people joined the series late.

Examples:
The Green Guy's honeymoon. During that time the race was put on hold until he returned.

When Fred joined our group we were right in the middle of our first season and therefore it wasn't possible for him to earn enough point to win, but he was still given the points he earned...they just didn't affect any of the other players. The same thing was done for other players that would occasionally pop in for a race or two.

Silverfox's haunted house project. He was awarded last place points because he didn't tell anyone that he wasn't going to be there. If we had of known, we would have most certainly rescheduled the race for him.

The only exception was in Greyfox's case. He missed week 5 and was therefore awarded last place points, but none of expected him back...so he was dropped from the weekly lineup. He did however return in week 8 and stayed for the remainder of the series.

Getting back on track:
At the end of our "B" class race a few weeks ago, we all agreed that there would be no more make-up races. Furthermore we agreed that Silverfox would only be permitted to make-up one race. A short time later I received a PM from Todd asking me if it was ok for him to make-up the races he missed. I told him that it wasn't up to me and for him to contact Silverfox or HveHitter. Not long afterwards Todd posted photos of his times along with a note telling me that HveHitted approved his make-up races. I in-turn updated the results.

Now I'm not trying to start any problems here, but what's fair for one has to be fair for everyone else. I had a family emergency last week, making it impossible for me to attend the race. Fred also had a family emergency. In Todd's case it was his wifes birthday. Did any of us die...no, but clearly these are all valid reasons for missing the race. That said, I think we should be permitted to make it up.

Make them up. We all have real life situations, and life happens. I think everybody should be able to make up races as long as you can prove you did them. Like myself, I posted pictures of the races that I did. I will be there tomarrow night.
We all get on xbox live to have fun and that is the main point of it. It's alot more fun playing with people then by yourself, trust me on that. But like I said real life happens and we have to go with the flow of it

I fully intended for everyone to be able to make up thier races up to and including the A Class races. The reason I feel this practice needs to be VERY limited in the future is because this group of racers has grown quite a bit. The last series that was used as an example was a small group of tight nit guys and it was very easy to postpone races or in the event that a race was made up the points were easy to figure out. That is clearly not the case now. I don't mean to be a hard ass about this but it is entirely too much work to re-do the points on everybody involved for one make-up race let alone have to do several over the course of the series. When I returned from the hospital it took me the better part of 2 hrs to redo the points. My feeling is that if you choose to partake in this series you are making a commitment to the series and the racers. Cant make it because you have to go to your golden retrievers second cousins B-day party then tough...If you dont show you get 0 points, If you DNF for any reason ie. the TV blew up or you lost your connection then you will get last place points because you showed up. If something unforseen and of desperate consern should keep you from the race please PM me and we can talk about the possibility of making up the race. I am not a total ass-hole and understand that some reasons are very good reasons and that a make-up race might be appropriate. But at the same time I will want the race done ASAP so I am not getting guys asking me when the points are going to be put up. Peace, love, go fast, and see ya tue.

Fredd PM'd me and said he decided not to make up his race...I still would like it if he did though and then we will all be caught up.

I agree. I sent Fred and Todd both PM's. I'm thinking Thursday evening if that's ok with them.

I will postpone the points untill I find out if they are going to make the races up. That way I will only have to do it once.

I think the main idea of not having make up races was because we went from having to have two rooms almost filled to one room after people found out we had make up races. To me the intent was to actually get everyone together so we could enjoy gaming with each other.

But I can understand how sometimes things are out of our control and even though we are dedicated to the series, there are higher priorities from time to time. I think in that case, then there should be make ups allowed. Hard to set what one person considers a priority while others don't, so maybe in the future we can better define what qualifies for make up statis.

Personally, I think a family or personal emergency should cover it.

I have no problem with Wobbly making it up because I have seen his dedication to not only this series, but others as well. So, I just don't see him missing one without it being a true emergency.

This did however give me an idea for the next series that I plan on setting up. Oh, and I do think we need to rotate who runs a series because to be honest, it can sometimes be a pain in the butt lol. What I was thinking, depending on how many weeks the next series is is that there will be 2 weeks that each person will have to take off. Kind of like a bye week. They decide when it is or save it just in case and have to take that last two races off if they haven't used them by then. That way everyone can adjust to those unforseen circumstances that seem to pop up in our lives. If you use the two (or however many depending on how long the season is) then too bad. I personally like the races to be where we all race together, except if you are taking one of your bye weeks.
