The purpose of the unknown skull

I was browsing about some Halo sites and found this little morsel:

This unknown skull appears in the level Cortana, in the Reactor Room where you have to destroy the generators. It is on the top of the ceiling. Its effect is that if you continue to the next level (Halo), with the skull in your hands, after the cutscene, you will start with a Spartan Laser. The skull can be considered number 14 and obviously doesn't have a name yet.

• Actually, you will gain the Spartan Laser if you carry the Tilt skull into the next level as well, so this skull either doesn't have an effect or the process of activating it hasn't been discovered yet

Interesting. I haven't come across any skulls yet. I'm playing through with a keen eye for detail without using any skull guides or anything though.

I'd be surprised if you found more than 1 or 2 skulls without the help of someone or some thing. The one mentioned above is hard to find even though I know where it is and have shown 3 or 4 people where to go.

[Mutiny]

The unknown skull is also a "Blind" skull. If you haven't picked that one up you will get credit for it on the level Cortana.
