I'm just wondering..

Hey guys, I need to ask you guys a question about something. Some of you may or may not no the answer to this unless you have a child enroled in a public school, or maybe you will, but the question is: What is the lunch policy for high schoolers in your area? And what I mean by that is, Are Juniors and Seniors allowed to go off campus for lunch? The reason I am asking this is because my school district is trying to shut the schools down for lunch. The only problem is that the school I got to has 2,500+ kids enroled, and there are about 10 classes in portables. So, my high school has no where near the resources to be able to handle lunch for all 2,500+ children, but our school board is notrious for making a decision without checking and making sure everything is going to work out.

The high school that our kids graduated from was a closed campus as well. Our daughter however had several off campus class related activities, so lunch for her was never a problem. For example: she was part of a daily school news program that aired on our local cable channel, so she was off campus nearly everyday. You might look into something similar in your area...or simply start bringing your lunch.

It's about 50/50 around here... with the more well-to-do high schools allowing students to eat off campus.

I'm curious how they are going to do this for students that get government help for their lunches? I hope to learn more about this when I start teaching.
