Default MacBook Air

I'm not going Mac and not trying to start any Mac-v-PC debate here but I've just got to say Steve and Steve must be the sharpest knives in the drawer when it comes to innovative design. If I weren't already a computer user (and PC at that) I might go with one of these super thin Macbook Airs.

Its really innovative ... except for the fact there is no cd-drive. I can't image what a pain it must be to have such a kick ass little notebook and be gimped by not having the ability to toss in a cd/dvd. If I was in market I would probably just buy a MacBook over the MacBook Air. At least it has a nice slot loading disc drive. Oh and they are about $700 cheaper too.

No Drive? Well, Looks like I didn't do my homework very well. Now after looking a bit, I'd pass on this. Still it's a neat package.

Oh, well! We PC users still owe a lot to Steve and Steve for their innovations.

The Air is an amazing design, but I don't really understand where they are trying to market it at! It's a superthin design, and it's an awesome feat! The CD Drive doesn't really bother me that much because I really don't use my CD drive that much anyways, and remember it is a ultra-portable. The next thing Apple is working on is a bigger iPhone/tablet device. That should be really cool!!!

If I needed a laptop for school and had the money I would consider it.

I really don't want to digress into a mac-v-pc debacle and I trying hard not to go there. Steve and Steve have brought us computer users many innovations and for those I'm thankful.

However, the more I look into the Macbook Air I'm more inclined to think it's some marketing stunt.

Who's it marketed to? Good question Desto, probably the primary market is the high end (read Rich Kid) college student who wants nothing more than the neatest and most expensive new toys to show off to their rich friends.

Innovative design? I'm not too sure it even qualifies as an innovative design. Look at any other laptop on the market today and think, how thin could this be made if we leave out the CD/DVD drive? Virtually any current laptop could be marketed as an "air" design. And think of the financial advantage with the "Air" design, Leave out parts, build a smaller case, and sell it for a higher price.

Innovative? Yes, it is! But the real innovation is in the marketing strategy not in the design.

Now Apple has made a few marketing blunders, Let's just see where their marketing innovation goes with the Air!

I can agree with you there about taking out the CD/DVD drive and it can easily become just as small as the Air, the only thing I would have to say against that is the CPU was made 60% smaller, if I am not mistaken. I do agree with you on the market part. My dad has always gotten the latest and greatest just because it is the latest and greatest, and he wants a MacBook Air. It should be interesting, and who knows, maybe when the do a design refresh on their laptops, maybe all of the will not have a CD/DVD drive!
