Default The Great Mac vs. PC debate...

I wanna hear what you guys have to say about the always ongoing Mac vs PC debate. I personally like Macs better because of thier slick design, and because it has much better support and community than the Windows/PC community does. So, what do you guys think?

i used to be hardcore-thickheaded-radical-PC guy....then i got a mac and it's the best computer I've ever had. It doesn't do gaming but I think gaming is better on consoles these days now that console online play is much improved. I haven't had one problem of any kind with my mac in the last year and half I've had it. I have a black mac book btw. I have Microsoft office on here also and compared to the PC I had before and PCs i use at school PowerPoint and Excel run better on my Mac than either of those computers and my home computer was as beefy as they get. My mac starts up usually under 25 seconds and is completly ready to do anything, I've never had to worry or even think about virus and spy ware on here, the video editing is better on the mac, and i used to do a lot of video editing. The only problem i've had with my mac is the hard drive is small but that is because i went from two 200gig HDs in my old desktop to an 80 gig mac. Basically the only thing bad about it is the gaming aspect but I'm getting a PS3 for x-mas (i think) and i have a Wii already so that solves that dilemma.

Is software still very limited? I did tons of research before I bought my 1st pc back in the mid 90's. I remember walking into software stores and seeing one bookshelf with Mac software and the rest of the store was PC. Can you network Mac with PCs?

Well, the nicest thing about today's Mac is that they run Intel chips, so you can actually run Windows on a Mac. The reason why you don't see so much software in the store today is because a lot of the Mac software is either freeware online, or high price software. You can network Mac with PC's. It is also much easier to browse PC's on Macs, then it is on PC's, IMHO.

Lack of software options= buy PC to me.

Well, like I said, even if you have a Windows backup disc laying around the house you can put Windows on a Mac, and then run the Windows software from there. Just curious, what type of software are you talking about?

Thumbs up Re: The Great Mac vs. PC debate...

Ya...I can see me buying a Mac next go around. I no longer play games on my PC, so a Mac would probably fit my needs perfectly.

all the software I've needed I've gotten for free. I used a freeware word processor that was almost completely compatible with word until my buddy got the teacher edition (he works for a private school) and he "accidentally" gave me a key that the school paid for. Also this same friend put windows on his macbook just to try it and tested the startup time of a brand new dell with the same specs and said that the mac booted faster and opened up microsoft office faster. i haven't tried networking a pc to a mac but in my dorm my roommate and i networked our macs and it was awesome cause it's like shared a harddrive. It was my first experience with networking so i don't know if everything is like that.

It seems to me the whole point of buying a Mac is to get away from Windows and therefore reduce the threat of viruses and spyware. Otherwise my PC runs Windows/Office just fine, so why switch?
