Default Vegas 2 Impressions

Mmm, good!

The old school maps look great! It's like playing the original Xbox Rainbow games with twice the frame rate and high res everything.

The new maps are cool as well. Especially the Free Comcast map. One is called Murder Town and its an unfinished construction site with lots of opportunities to kill or be killed.

Every thing was nice and smooth. No slow down or anything that lasted for more than a second. Players can jump in and out of unranked matches very easily. Leveling up is just as much fun as COD4, except you can do it in all the modes!

Though not a huge leap in graphics it feels more like a "next gen" Rainbow game than the original Vegas. Tons of interactive things in the environments like boxes of wine that crash to the floor or stacked tires in Kill House. The sound is also very well done, with great processing for identifying where shots are heard on your surround sound system. Sure that's nothing new, it just feels more varied and accurate a representation of what a gun shot one room over sounds like compared to two or three rooms over.

Anyway ... I'll be playing some more tomorrow, I'm calling in sick to try and handle my Wii shipment fuck up and to catch up on some much neglected video game time.

Talking Re: Vegas 2 Impressions

I've never been a huge fan of Rainbow. In fact, with the possible exceptions of "Far Cry" & "Blazing Angels"...I don't really like anything that Ubisoft puts out. Why?
  • Because the controls are cumbersome. Switching to your pistol for example is a joke. The same is true for grenades.
  • There's no maylee.
  • You can't lay down.
  • The shots guns are ridiculously over powered.
Something else I've noticed is when the action gets hot and heavy...the frame rate takes a dump and game plays becomes choppy.

At any rate, this one is better then the first...but it's more like Version 1.5 then 2.0 IMO. I also think it's about time the programmers at Ubisoft purchased a copy of "COD4" to see how a well designed shooter functions.

That said, "my" perfect Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon would use the COD4 engine. To that I'd add the face scanning, which I think Ubisoft does a great job with. I'd also set it someplace other then Vegas...been there, done that! Maybe a big city like New York next time?

That's my 2 cents.

To me it feels more like a greatest hits version of RB6. As for the control ... its what I'm used to and its very familiar to any RB6 player.

I personal love the game but.... damit if my game don't take a dump on its self when things get going fast and crazy. I swear the frame rates just are cut in half. Other than that I love the game, the new run feature, new weapons, maps, sounds are great, and freakin harder AI. Online play runs much smoother than it did before and like ya'll said above getting in and out of rooms is good.

I got spoiled with cod4 with being able to shoot through walls and being able to kill enemys easier.(like one pull of the trigger from a m16 with mods and u can kill anybody, anywhere on there body). Also cod4 game engine IS THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS. They are the guys to catch as far as I am concerned, not to many people do it better. Maybe the only other game that impress's me is the ninja gaiden game because it is stupidly fast past and the game engine never even flinches.

But over all I give it a 9 out 10... only thing I still don't like is the idea that the armor still doesn't matter to much because u can were the best armor and still die just as easy.

I myself have never been a Rainbow Six fan. Too much team interaction overall. If you operate as a group, your chances are better. If you operate as a run and gun team, not as good. Now the run feature is a plus, as for anything before kinda sucked. The use of cover is much better and nice for you can get an aim going before you peak around the corner. The sound is great in my opinion. I am a sound guy so that is one of the first things I notice. Reloading around a corner to shots fired up or down in the next room. It is clear and distinctive. I actually have to think that if a window is broken and I'm stepping on the glass anyone can hear me. That is a nice feature. But the game does seem to be in what COD4 had as Hardcore mode, all the time. You take a hit it's a hard hit no matter what armor your wearing. I like the maps, haven't figured them all out but I do like the dynamics and the change up. They have improved from anything I have seen before, but still behind on the times. COD4 has marked the standard and I do love that game. Camo in R6V2 can make or break you I found out. If your in black in the Villa map your screwed inside the house. For it is white. So that I like, but you have to change your attire everytime you start a new map, downfall. But I will play it since I receive my copy from Gamefly to keep for awhile. I overall so far enjoy Terrorist Hunt, but want to experience Story Mode for the full effect of Xbox Live.

Wink Re: Vegas 2 Impressions

I will admit the game is starting to grow on me. In fact, when I'm able to find green connection I do pretty well. I'm still a lot better at COD4, but yesterday I actually won a game in the junkyard using nothing but my "Raging Bull"...not too bad! Unfortunately I don't see a lot of green connections during the day. At this point I think it must have something to do with Rainbow, because it doesn't seem to be as big a factor in other games.

I agree with everything said here. Some of the MP maps seem a bit small, and way to cluttered up.
What does it take to get a rotating spawn point like COD4?
I love the Co-Op and T-Hunts.
