Default My latest impressions of PS3 vs 360

I lifted this from my reply on a munkeebode forum, but I figured he would probably delete it since he is trying to protect his investment in the PS3 and hates hearing the facts ...

I downloaded the PS3 Darkness demo and played through the first three missions. One thing I noticed right away is the loading times are worse and the Jackie loading screen scenerios are less detailed. Overall the textures are not as clean/high res looking. They look kinda washed out. Probably in an attempt to anti-alias ... I tell ya what ... Sony's systems have all had major anti-aliasing issues and the PS3 is no different. If I had known ahead of time that this system was going to be as jaggy as my PS2 I would have kept that. The demo and my 360 version both run at 1080i, so I can confirm that the 360 version looks much better when it comes to resolution/anti-aliasing. Basically every texture from the characters to the environment are less washed out on 360 which makes them look more realistic. Like I said the only thing I don't like is the mouth animations, but other than that I think graphics are pretty good. I downloaded the GRAW2 demo aswell and found all of the above statements to be true for that game as well. Sony might be the new Nintendo in regards to the fact that the only games that are going to look good are the exclusive titles developed by first party developers that take 3-4years working on them to achieve the level of detail of current generation 360 titles.

Thumbs down Re: My latest impressions of PS3 vs 360

Ok, I think I've been playing around with this thing long enough to give it a fair comparison...so here it is. --> There is currently no comparison! As a plug and play full featured gaming system, the Xbox 360 wins it hands down.

Sorry I couldn't connect with you tonight Fred, but there's no in game message/popup to inform players of game invites, so I didn't see any of your invites until my game(s) had ended. Unfortunately by then your room was full. I would have sent you a message, but Sony doesn't include a mic with their system and the virtual keyboard is incredibly inconvenient!

As for the hardware, I'm sure it's fine...no complaints. In fact, the system looks beautiful. Unfortunately the interface lacks all the luxuries we've grown to rely on over the last few years. For that reason the PS3 feels like a dinosaur to me. Two thumbs down for the PS3...

Well Wobbly, these are the things I have been talking about all along. I believe the PS3 is a better piece of hardware than the Xbox. But the software of the community features is way behind. Cross bar menu is okay, but I do like the blades better. Navigating the play station store is a royal pain. The fact you can't message from in game really blows, and as far as I know you can only invite friends that happen to be playing the same game as you. Also sucking the big one. Sony took a step backwards when making the 40 gig system unable to play Playstation 2 games(it will play Playstation 1 games). One of the selling features to me was the backward compatibility. The Xbox is coming along, but still a lot of games unplayable on the 360.

But I believe the future is bright. Game developers will learn and take advantage of what the PS3 offers. Sony's Home I think will address many of the issues of community inter action. Time will tell. I would gladly pay my yearly dues to Sony if they put forth a better "Sony Live". Again, I think Sony will address most of these issues with their Home.
Again, I love both systems(though I seem to better at CoD4 on PS3 for some reason..lol)

I'm sure that's true and I don't hate my PS3...it's great for watching movies, but to compare it to the 360 as a "multi-player" gaming console is a complete waste of time. At least right now anyway.

Another thing I've noticed is there's a lot of people using "voice masks"...I hate that crap! Who wants to listen to a bunch of robots calling each other the "N" word? The unfortunate part is there's no way to file a complaint. I've tried clicking on their names, but it does absolutely nothing.

Oh, and while I'm ranting...would it have killed Sony to throw a cheesy little USB mic in the box for us?

I think it is because the 360 users kick ass more. Kind of like playing veterans vs playing recruits. lol hahahaha

Actually there's some pretty darn good players on the PS3. I don't know why Fred does better, maybe it's the smaller controller? At any rate, he and I are pretty evenly matched. That doesn't seem to be the case on the 360.

By the way Fred, my mic should be here today. If so, I'll look for you later this evening.

Well all I know is I miss filling Fred full of lead and as I don't have a PS3 or do not plan on getting one any time in the near future I think he needs to go back and forth to try to figure out why he does better on the PS3. That way I will still be able to play against a friend besides just in Forza where he usually kicks my ass lol

Now that really surprised me. My PS3 came with only standard Audio/Video cables, not even component cables. LOL. Yea, and people always complain about MS, at least a mic and set of component cables. I mean if you make this high quality system that is truly meant for HD, throw some friggin decent cables in with it. lol

Also, the voice changer was really quite stupid, seems anyone who uses it always sounds like a chipmunk.

Grey, I was thinking you were right there. Now there are some really good players, but overall, I seem to average more kills per game on the PS3. It could be the controller, though it still bothers me just a little bit. (btw, my high kill count was on the PS3, playing domination on shipyard. 77 kills, 39 deaths....I love playing that map on domination or headquarters.)
