Default DSL vs cable

Right now I have Charter cable. It is 5M down and I think 1M up. Problem is lag seems to be a regular visitor. So I was thinking about going to DSL Qwest is what is available in my area with 7M down and 896 up. Not sure about how laggy it will be though. Anyone use DSL or Qwest for their DSL? If so, how is it working for you? All I know is I am so tired of putting 31 rounds into someone on my screen only to have them turn around and kill me with 2 shots!
Plus if I get the whole package, phone, internet and Direct TV I can get HD programming with DVR for a little less than the whole Charter package without the HD programming and DVR. LAG SUCKS!!!!! LAG SUCKS!!!! LAG SUCKS!!!! IT is starting to suck the fun out of FPS for me. I don't mind getting killed by someone who gets the drop on me or gets off a better shot (head vs. body) but this zooming in on someones head, emptying an entire mag into it while they sit down and have their lunch is getting pretty frustrating. Lag is part of the reason I am still thinking about even getting Halo 3.

Well, it would seem like you might need to put your 360 in your router's DMZ. Basiclly what this does is it takes out the 360 out of the firewall and allows faster access to the interwebs, as I like to call it. The nice thing abou H3's hosting system is that you can be the party leader, but it will hosts off somebody else's connection, because it keeps a record of wo has the best connection, and if that person's connection has dropped for some reason, then it will automatticlly find a stronger host. So, if that is the only thing preventing you from getting H3, then I would get it. Also, it may not be your connection. It maybe that you have a router conflict with Tree, or somebody else in the room, and that is the person you shoot the most. That's my 2 cents, but some of the gurus might know what better to do like VR or Wobbly.

Well crap, the only service available is the slower one. 1.5M down and 896 up. Too slow for Live.

HaHaHa...he means me

Here's my thoughts. Typically people put their box in the DMZ when they're having connection problems. You're not having problems getting connected, so I'd be surprised if this turned out to be a router/firewall issue. Therefore if it were me, I'd eliminate the router to see if it helped.

Well, I was talking to VR when I changed it and he said after I did that my voice went from being brok3en up to really loud. I have tried the direct to xbox and it didn't matter. I might mess with my setup on how I have everything wired if that doesn't help though. Problem with running direct is wife wouldn't be able to get on her computer and she doens't like that too well lol

Well, that's good. Now you know it's not your router. Therefore nothing you do with regards to the router is going to help fix your problem.

DSL -vs- Cable

The problem with cable is you and all your neighbors are connected to the same wire. Therefore in populated areas you end up with slowdowns. In my case it would happen when people were getting home from work and last the better part of the night. With DSL on the other hand you have your own connection all the way to the service office. That being the case, my connection might not be as fast as it once was with cable...but it's consistent. That's what I like about it
